Frequently Asked Questions

Does Structural Integration Hurt?

I have a very gentle manner and work with each person at their pace and comfort level.  If it hurts, all you have to do is tell me and together we find a comfortable way to accomplish the goals we have for that session.

Many people have heard that Structural Integration is a painful process.  This reputation developed in the 1960's when Dr. Rolf began teaching her work.  Since those days, the work has evolved, and our knowledge of the body has grown.

Structural Integration is not about forcing the body to change, it's more about listening to the client's body and encouraging areas that are holding to open and let go.  We often do not realize that we are holding pain and stress in our body until someone else touches our pain. There may be some discomfort while working in an area that's been under chronic stress, however, the discomfort is usually followed by a wonderful feeling of release and relaxation.  Every client has a different relationship to pain and touch.

What is the cost?

The cost is $80.00 per session, and sessions last between an hour and an hour and a half.  In order to receive the full benefit of the work, I recommend for clients do one session a week, or one every two weeks, until completing the ten series.  However, if this does not work logistically or financially, it is possible to schedule sessions up to six weeks apart.

Does Structural Integration Last?

Absolutely!  Once the body moves into a place of greater comfort and balance, it wants to stay there!  Photographs taken years after clients have completed the basic ten series show that the changes were still present and the structure had often improved further.

Will I need more work after completing the Basic Ten Series?

After completing the Basic Ten Series, I recommend clients wait several months before receiving additional work.  This allows time for the body to integrate and process all of the changes that it has made.  After an integration period, clients have the option to return for more advanced work. Our bodies are constantly changing and responding as our lives change.

I highly recommend receiving post ten/advanced work if you have been dealing with physical or emotional stressors in your life: illness, injury, or other trauma.  I also recommend additional work if you have a desire to continue to learn more about your body, and explore body awareness. The Basic Ten Series establishes a fine framework of balance for the structure and the possibilities for fine tuning are endless!
